This August, honoring the month of the PachaMama, Say Hueque will become the 1st tour operator in Argentina to offset 100% of carbon emissions.
Say Hueque started in 1999 helping travelers worldwide to experience Argentina and Chile.
“I wanted them to see the off-the-beaten-path natural wonders I’ve seen by traveling this amazing region, to connect with people and places as I once did. With Say Hueque, I realized that traveling, if well managed, can be a source of employment in rural communities, a catalyst for the creation of multicultural empathy, and a powerful tool to create conscious awareness about the fragility of the environment, and the necessity to preserve nature and local cultures. I am a strong believer that travel can be a force for good,” said Rafa Mayer, founder and director of the company. “But now we have become part of the problem,” he adds.
Travel growth’s fast pace contributes to contamination and global warming and many travel companies around the globe are taking action. Traveling at a slow pace, individually or in small groups, using local operators and family-run hotels, is very important but not enough.
This August, the month of Pachamama, when native cultures of South America honor Mother Earth, Say Hueque is becoming 100% Carbon Neutral. To make it possible the company is partnering with South Pole, one of the most reputable organizations on Climate Change actions, making sure that resources go directly to the projects, as well as with ATTA (Adventure Travel Trade Association) that unites some of the most recognized adventure travel companies of the world.
What does this mean? From August, all trips operated and organized by Say Hueque, will compensate 100% of its carbon emissions. The carbon footprint of all trips is calculated with the help of South Pole tools and compensated it with an equal investment in different projects that implement reforestation, and develope the use of renewable energy and sustainable production processes around the globe.
With this action, Say Hueque becomes the first tour operator in Argentina to take this step and is hoping that many others could soon follow. But this is not the only action that Say Hueque is taking to reduce our travel footprint.
- The company became plastic-free, which means that the use of single-use plastic has been cancelled in trip operations. This includes plastic bottles, plastic straws or plastic boxes for box lunches on our tours.
- The company has worked on an internal program to reduce the use of waste and energy in the office to offset their emissions.
Say Hueque invites all travel companies around the globe to work together for a more sustainable, responsible and meaningful way of exploring the world.
