Many places around the world claim to have the best Christmas celebrations, yet no holiday destination offers Christmas Villages quite like the island of Cyprus.
With festivities set to begin on November 26 and extending until mid-January, a series of activities, street performances, traditional customs, tailor-made experiences and guided tours are being mastered within the magical spirit of Christmas. This season is all about creating Christmas memories to cherish for a lifetime!
Last year, the Deputy Ministry of Tourism launched the first Christmas Villages set in the heart of the Troodos Mountains, offering visitors rich sceneries in picturesque traditional villages, fresh air and breath-taking views. This year, the Christmas Villages go from west to east. And so, Agros, Deryneia, Fikardou, Κalavasos, Kalopanagiotis, Kyperounta and Polis Chrysochous are putting on their finest festive attire to spread the Christmas spirit.
Come and taste, smell, touch, feel and live Christmas in seven unique villages of Cyprus! Look out for Santa making an entrance on a boat in Polis, get down to making your own zesto krasi (warm wine) in Agros, dive into the secrets and smells of hot milopittes (apple pies) in Kyperounta, follow the Christmas procession and sing melodic hymns in Kalopanagiotis, cycle and learn how to cook Christmas recipes in Kalavasos, bake your own bread and biscuits with the locals in Deryneia, dress up like medieval times and become one with Fikardou’s glorious past.
You can combine the Cypriot Christmas experience with organised walking tours in the heart of our participating villages, thus learning their history and traditions, their local handicrafts and authentic delicacies. In the vicinity of our Christmas Villages you will get acquainted with the natural wealth of this beautiful island, its mesmerising nature trails, its endemic plant species and its magical viewpoints which take the breath away!
Of course, no Christmas celebration is complete without a traditional feast! So in our Christmas Villages, you will be spoilt with delicious holiday menus in local restaurants and hotels, all with a twinkle of Cypriot hospitality and other surprises! Oh, and that’s not all! There are more than 300 authentic workshops on traditional handicraft, local gastronomy and more that you can discover as well!
