The Adventure Travel Trade Association’s AdventureEDU program recently provided a Learning Mission training for Colombia tourism entrepreneurs in conjunction with the 2024 Adventure Travel World Summit in Panama. In this program, participants first attended the Summit, followed by in-person experiential training in Panama which built on their immersive experiences at the event.
Led by two educators with decades of expertise in tourism, Ana Ines Figueroa and Andres Diaz, the five-day program aimed to develop practical skills and provide training in key areas such as designing adventure experiences, customer service and group management, understanding the needs and desires of international travelers, and building relationships with global business partners.
“It was incredible to have the opportunity to share with each of the participants during the program, to understand their motivations, to hear from their own voices what makes them move forward to make tourism become a real tool to consolidate peace while regenerating the ecosystems that are so vulnerable and important for humanity,” said Diaz, who is also the ATTA Country Manager in Colombia. “They are very passionate about what they do, and they made us feel very proud to be able to do our part in contributing to the achievement of this great goal.”
Watch the video below to hear from the two instructors and participants about the training program and their experience, the opportunities and challenges the entrepreneurs face in developing tourism products in Colombia, and their collaborative approach to building better business models.
The AdventureEDU Colombia program was supported by the USAID Destination Nature program, a program of mentoring and promotion of regenerative tourism initiatives in Colombia.
