The Adventure Travel Trade Association™ (ATTA), the world’s largest network of adventure travel professionals, revealed today that Panama will be the next host destination for the annual Adventure Travel World Summit™ (ATWS) to be held on 7-10 October 2024. This will mark the first time that the ATWS will be held in Central America.

Every year around 800 individuals from various backgrounds in the adventure travel industry, ranging from tour operators and representatives from different destinations to travel writers specializing in adventure, come together to form a united community at ATWS. The 4-day event is the biggest event of the year for the outdoor adventure industry and includes an active Day of Adventure followed by three days of collaborative-learning workshops, one-on-one networking opportunities, and inspirational speakers.

“Since 2017 ATTA has been working with partners in Panama to increase community-based travel in the country,” explains Gabi Stowell, ATTA’s Vice President, Regional Development. ATTA has conducted research, and held more intimate events like  AdventureWeek, AdventureEDUs, and AdventureNEXT Latin America, which took place in Panama City in 2022. “Along the way I learned so much about this amazing destination and discovered that Panama is truly a gem, filled with diverse culture and biodiversity, and endless adventure. In 2024, the entire ATTA community will gather for the first time in Central America, and I can’t wait for the world to see and experience all the things that made me fall in love with Panama.”

Panama is an adventure travel hub, biodiversity hotspot, and serves as a gateway to incredible cultural experiences ranging from white sandy beaches to the famous historical landmark - the Panama Canal. It’s home to the Gamboa Rainforest, which offers lush canopies filled with birdsong and Soberanía National Park, a prime spot for admiring wildlife and birds. With over 500 species of birds identified, Pipeline Road in particular has earned its title as an internationally acclaimed bird watching destination. Beyond its lush rainforest, the city is bustling with lively street art, a buzzing nightlife, and cultural and educational experiences that tap into the history and present of Panama.

Since we have been honored to be chosen as the host country for the next Adventure Travel World Summit, we are delighted to extend a special invitation, especially to our esteemed friends from Asia,” said Denise Guillén Zúñiga from the Minister of Tourism of Panama. “Panama has so much to explore, with hidden treasures waiting to be discovered and enjoyed! We have been curating this event to welcome intrepid travelers from over 60 countries across the globe, and we eagerly anticipate your arrival in 2024!”
