The country of Myanmar is in need of significant help! Heavy monsoon rains have recently hit Myanmar causing flooding throughout the central and western part of the country, affecting many communities. Thousands of civilians have been displaced after flash floods and landslides wiped away homes, roads and bridges. It is estimated that 150,000 homes have been damaged, 100,000 farms flooded and about 30 Burmese civilians have lost their lives.
The flooding has left much of the infrastructure devastated creating logistical difficulties in delivering supplies, food and medical personnel. The Myanmar government is urgently working with the UN and various NGOs to reach the roughly 200,000 people in need of basic supplies and foodstuffs.
The Asia Transpacific Foundation is currently collecting donations to help the relief efforts. By working together with our partners on the ground in Myanmar, the Asia Transpacific Foundation is able to efficiently and effectively disperse funds as the situation in Myanmar evolves.
