KENYA - Cheli & Peacock, Kenya's leading destination management company, and Tortilis Camp, one of 14 eco-tourism lodges in The C&P Portfolio, have been recognized with a number of prestigious awards, generating a season of celebration.
The Kenya Tourism Awards took place at an impressive gala ceremony in Nairobi on June 22, 2012. By the end of the night, Cheli & Peacock was awarded "Best Tour Operator" and Tortilis Camp took home "Best Small Lodge." This ceremony aims to highlight companies that demonstrate innovative, sustainable, and responsible tourism practice - altogether contributing towards Kenya's growth and development.
To further the celebrations, Tortilis Camp stands high on the podium in Travel + Leisure's World's Best Awards. Tortilis is one of the Top 100 Hotels Overall in the world and one of the top lodges and resorts in Africa and the Middle East. Travel + Leisure readers rank hotels by rooms/facilities, location, service, restaurant/food and value.
Travel + Leisure also gives an insider tip: visit the field-research headquarters of the Amboseli Trust for Elephants, Africa's longest-running pachyderm study. Tortilis' guides know the elephant families and their histories intimately. These are some of biggest elephants seen in Africa, as they have been protected for generations.
Tortilis Camp consists of 16 spacious eco-friendly tents and two family units facing Mt. Kilimanjaro. Aside from the family sizes, which house two en suite bedrooms with private seating area, each tent includes a main bedroom with wooden floors, en-suite bathroom and a spacious veranda. Rates start at US$ 320 per person, depending on the season.
